Dr Alli completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery before completing his specialist training in Ophthalmology at Wits and receiving his Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Colleges of Medicine and Surgery of South Africa. He is currently employed as a consultant ophthalmologist at St John Eye Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

Areas of interest include retina, uveitis and neuro-ophthalmology.
