INPATIENT CARE

General Wards

The general wards have patients ranging in age from birth to 13yrs. These patients fall under the care of four paediatric units.

A unit typically comprises a consultant, a registrar, one medical officer and two interns. For most of the year there is at least one or two junior interns (GEMP IV students) attached to each unit.

Unit 1 - Nicole van Wyk

Unit 3 - Dr Gill Sorour
Unit 4 - Gary Reubenson

In addition, Profs Coovadia & Bolton, and Drs Hendson, Rademeyer, Rothberg, Naka & van Greenen also provide in-patient care to these children.

WARDS

Ward 17   - Admision ward, also known as Little Angels
Ward 1 - Infants up to 60d of age
Ward 2 - Children from 3 years to 13 years
Ward 3 - All ages except neonates for potentially contagious illnesses
Ward 4 - Children from 60d to 3 years

 

NEONATAL UNIT & ICU

This unit is run by a team of dedicated staff led by Dr Joy Fredericks. The other members of the team are:

This unit often has neonatal fellows in training.

Ward 16A: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) + High Care Area

Ward 16B/C: Neonatal ward

KMC (Kangaroo Mother Care)
