Peer Review Process

Peer review in Palaeontologia africana strictly adheres to the following process:

1. All submitted articles are screened by the Head Editor for suitability, formatting and content. 
2. If a submitted article meets the journal¡¯s requirements, it may be sent directly for review or send to a Consulting Editor for handling the review process.
3. Each article is sent out for review by a minimum of two referees.
4. Each referee submits a report, consisting of a standardized form (available upon request), a letter, and optionally a marked manuscript file.
5. The Consulting Editor collates the reviews and sends a recommendation to the Head Editor. 
6. The Head Editor makes a final decision of either Reject, Accept with Major Revisions, Accept with Minor Revisions, or Accept. Rejections are invited to resubmit if the manuscript is substantially altered. Major revisions require re-review by the original reviewers. Minor revisions are at the discretion of the Head Editor, but may require re-review.
7. Accepted articles are sent on a first-come, first-served basis for typesetting.
8. The corresponding author receives a proof file.
9. Revised proofs are published online on a first-come, first-served basis. Authors receive a digital copy which they may distribute subject to our content license.
