GCSRI changes its name to GCI

A new name and a new look

The Global Change and Sustainability Research Institute (GCSRI) changed its name to the Global Change Institute (GCI). In addition to a new, simpler name and modern logo, the Institute has gotten a fresh new look and has adopted the tagline “Link. Learn. Enable. Change.” as its official purpose statement.

  • Link: Linking knowledge domains
  • Learn: Creating collaborative opportunities to learn from these links
  • Enable: Such opportunities, lead to shared knowledge, that  enables credible and legitimate solutions
  • Change: Solutions based on shared knowledge enables change

Prof Barend Erasmus, Exxaro Chair in Global Change and Sustainability; and GCI Director says, “Our new name and branding coincides with our revised vision and strategic plan for the Institute. The rebrand is an important step in the Institute’s transition as shows our growth towards more cross-sectoral collaborations, with a transdisciplinary research (TDR) agenda. Working in the TDR sphere requires working together with a variety of stakeholders from fellow researchers, members of the public, business, industry to government. We don’t consider ourselves to be an ivory tower of knowledge, but rather as a vehicle to enable progressive societal change through the co-production of knowledge with various actors. We are a unique, dynamic and inclusive Institute, and wanted our branding to convey a more modern look that appeals to a wider audience,” says Prof Erasmus.
