LINK's four public-interest research themes are aligned with several of the most pressing and challenging dimensions of Africa's digital knowledge economy. The themes comprise:

  • Digital Innovation and Transformation
  • Governance, Policy and Regulation for the Digital Era
  • Cybersecurity Thinking and Analytical Frameworks
  • Open Approaches to Knowledge Governance

The Centre's work in these thematic areas generates findings that inform the LINK team members' other outputs: their publications, their teaching of degree and short course content, their supervision of PhD and Master's students, and their provision of advisory services.

Research Theme: Digital Innovation and Transformation

Under this theme, the LINK Centre explores the challenges, and necessary responses, faced by African stakeholders as they seek to harness the potential of digital innovation and transformation.

Research Theme: Governance, Policy and Regulation for the Digital Era

Under this research theme, the LINK Centre explores the pressing governance, policy and regulatory challenges in Africa's digital knowledge economy.

Research Theme: Cybersecurity Thinking and Analytical Frameworks

Under this theme, the LINK Centre explores, and contributes to, the conceptual and analytical work emerging from the cybersecurity field in African settings.

Research Theme: Open Approaches to Knowledge Governance

Under this theme, the LINK Centre explores the ways in which open, flexible approaches to knowledge governance, including intellectual property rights, can facilitate collaborative innovation and development.
