Wits University’s Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct is once again thrilled to announce the 2024 edition of the Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival, a premier event where African innovators across diverse digital disciplines will captivate festival-goers with cutting-edge offerings in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

2024 Fak'ugesi Festival

The 2024 Fak'ugesi Festival is taking place from 3 - 5 October 2024. View the Festival programme here.

Founded in 2014, the festival is a collaboration between Tshimologong and the Wits School of ArtsDigital Arts Department. Fak’ugesi is dedicated to the intersection of technology, art, and culture in Africa. The festival is built on the belief that successful technological innovation in Africa must be deeply rooted in the continent’s cultural practices and creative expressions. Tshimologong CEO, Mark Harris expressed, “We take our role as a digital incubator space incredibly seriously and this festival allows us the opportunity to aggregate and show case the best of the best in this digital space.”

Driven by common goals, including the desire to combine technology, innovation and creative content, Tshimologong and Wits are developing a new generation of digital technology experts, innovators and entrepreneurs. As university-based incubator  Tshimologong and the Wits School of Arts are raising the profile of African digital innovation by inspiring new talent through the Fak’ugesi Festival.

Head of the Wits School of Arts, Professor René Smith, an experienced digital festival director and Chairperson of the 2024 Fak’ugesi Awards, believes: “Fak’ugesi distinguishes itself as a premier festival for African creative digital innovation and the digital creative industries. It exists as a necessary platform for creative outputs and innovations, especially in emerging and growing fields. The festival is embedded in local contexts, whilst simultaneously facilitating international collaboration and global relevance”.

Following the celebration of its 10th anniversary last year, this year’s festival is set to exceed all expectations with the theme “Until Unlocked”. Whether you are a gamer, an animator, or a brand seeking to align with the forefront of digital innovation, Fak'ugesi is the place to be.

In addition to making sure that there is maximum exposure of the festival, Fak’ugesi proudly enjoys an exclusive media partnership with YFM – again strongly aligned with the youth driving the digital agenda across the continent and beyond.

The 2024 edition will feature ground-breaking collaborations with top-tier partners and a dynamic daily agenda designed to inspire and engage. For more details, including partner announcements and program schedules, please visit our website at https://fakugesi.co.za/
