Former CALS director promoted to full professor

Prof Bonita Meyersfeld, director at CALS between 2012 and 2017, has been appointed a full professor at the Wits School of Law
CALS is proud to announce that Prof Bonita Meyersfeld has been promoted to the position of full professor in the Wits University School of Law. According to Wits policies, to be promoted to a professorship, a candidate must have an international reputation, have a strong publication record, show a record of successful postgraduate teaching and supervision, demonstrate intellectual leadership, and make a distinguished contribution to both academia and professional work.
On 20 February 2025, a screening committee from the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management confirmed that Prof Meyersfeld meets all of these criteria.
Prof Meyersfeld joined CALS in 2010 as the head of our Gender programme. In 2012, she was promoted to associate professor and director of our organisation. During her time at CALS, Prof Meyersfeld contributed enormously to our work, overseeing over 100 litigious cases and establishing our Business and Human Rights programme. Under her leadership, CALS was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Academic Citizenship team award in 2015. After stepping down as director in 2017, she remained on our Board of Advisors for several years and continues to play an important role as a colleague in the School of Law and as an advocate of the High Court.
We send our warmest congratulations to her on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to continue working with her in this capacity.
