Dr. Presha Ramsarup

Dr. Presha Ramsarup is Director at the Centre for Researching Education and Labour at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. She is a Senior Research Associate at the Environmental Learning Research Centre at Rhodes University and Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham. Her research work focuses on  learning pathways for sustainable development and sustainability and her work is focused on skills for a just transition. She is currently engaged in several research programmes focused on transitioning the Vocational Education and Training in Africa.  She is the current President of the Environmental Education Association of Southern Africa. 

Prof. Stephanie Matseleng Allais

Prof. Stephanie Matseleng Allais is the South African Research Chair of Skills Development, and Professor of Education at the Centre for Researching Education and Labour, in the School of Education at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Her research interests are in the sociology of education with a focus on macro sociological accounts of education and work, education and development, curriculum, and political economy of education. She currently teaches Education, Skills, and Development (EDUC 7131) and Economic Concepts for Researching Education, Skill Formation and Work (EDUC 7104) on the Masters of Education focused on Knowledge and Work which she launched in 2016.

Prior to joining Wits University she was a fellow at the Centre for Educational Sociology at the University of Edinburgh. Immediately prior to joining the CES, she managed and conducted research for an international research project comparing qualifications frameworks in 16 countries, for the International Labour Organization. She has worked in various parts of the South African education system, including government, a non-governmental organization in distance education, running the education department of a trade union, and teaching in a high school, as well as teaching part time in adult basic education and training, and leading a student organization. She served on many committees by appointment of Ministers of Education in South Africa, and has been involved in numerous policy processes, including being Special Advisor to the current Minister of Higher Education and Training. She has a PhD in education policy from Wits University in South Africa.

Kate Mlauzi

Kate Mlauzi is a researcher at Wits Real. She has experience working in programmes in the developmental sector related to programme implementation, research, research administration and monitoring and evaluation. Kate holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies from Wits university and completed her BA Honours in Development Studies and  BA in Humanities from the University of Johannesburg. Her research interest include social justice issues related to education, human rights, climate change, health care, income gap, equality, women and poverty.

Cynthia Mangena

Cynthia Mangena is the office administrator at the Wits REAL Centre. She holds a National Diploma in Corporate Governance and Administration. Prior to working at REAL Cynthia worked at Total Gaz and Bidvest Afcom.
