Master of Education in Educational Psychology

The Master of Education (Educational Psychology) programme runs over two years and is comprised of three major facets:

COURSE WORK

The following modules are offered in 2024, and may be modified in 2025

  • Clinical Procedures
  • Counselling Theory and Practice
  • Research
  • Adjustment/Maladjustment
  • Educational Psychology in the Community

Practical training is provided in conjunction with theoretical input. 雷速体育_雷速体育直播s are provided with experience with clients in the Wits Education Clinic and direct practical experience in community work.

INTERNSHIP

During the second year of the course, students are required to work at one of the intern placement sites. Internship placements are an integral part of the Wits training programme and successful completion of an internship is necessary for the award of the degree. Placement is at the discretion of the internship.

THE RESEARCH REPORT

A central requirement for the degree is a research report which presents research in an area related to clinical psychology. 雷速体育_雷速体育直播s will begin in early February with seminars on research methodology and be given several weeks in which to begin planning appropriate research. Each student will be assigned a supervisor, who will help the student to prepare a research proposal for approval by the Department and by Faculty of Humanities. The student will then conduct the research.

The Health Professions Council of South Africa expects students to complete all the requirements for their degree (including the research report) within 3 years of initial registration.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • B. Ed Honours (Educational Psychology) degree or Psychology Honours degree
  • Experience in the field of education and/or counselling

Be sure to enclose official university transcripts and one passport sized photograph with your department application form. These forms can be downloaded on the links below.

In addition to your application, please choose two referees from people acquainted with your academic and/or professional performance. Choose people who have an understanding of the needs of the profession. Ask them complete referees reports online using the link provided below to arrive before the closing date.

Incomplete or late Department Course Application Forms will not be accepted, nor applications sent to the Faculty.

All complete application forms with supporting documents and referee report forms must be completed (by the closing date of 14 June 2024)
