The Accessible Greywater Solutions for Urban Informal Townships in South Africa (URBWAT) studied the implementation of treatment wetlands in an urban megacity slum context. This multidisciplinary project met the need in South Africa for a low-cost, sustainable solution for informal settlements that lack adequate sanitary infrastructure.
In 2023, Profs. Andrew Thatcher and Craig Sheridan won the VC's Innovation and Social Impact Award for the project.
